Harley Davidson Sportster Forty-Eight
The Harley-Davidson Forty-Eight (model XL1200X) is a bobber-styled Sportster built around an air-cooled 1,202 cc Evolution V-twin and the 2.1-gallon peanut fuel tank that gives the bike its name. Its low seat, fat 16-inch front wheel, and drag-style bars make it a planted, easy-handling cruiser with classic Harley presence, minus the bulk of a full touring bagger. On Oahu it is right at home rolling down Kalakaua Avenue past Waikiki Beach, climbing to the Diamond Head lookout, or running the coastal Kalanianaole Highway toward Hanauma Bay and the windward shore. A valid motorcycle license or endorsement is required, and the 5-speed belt-drive V-twin has plenty of low-end torque for confident island riding.
